about

Hello there!

I'm releasing a new song from the next album a wee bit early, with all money received going to help Barnardo's support Young Carers who are struggling to cope with lockdown.

Young Carers are children who provide full-time care for a parent or parents who may be disabled, live with mental health problems, or have issues with drugs and/or alcohol. For many of these children, coming to a Barnardo's Young Carers centre is the only time they get to relax, feel safe, express themselves, play, and just be children.

But lockdown has forced Barnardo's to close their centres, and with many Young Carers still not allowed back to school, they are struggling in very challenging home environments. Money from the sale of this record will help Barnardo's provide emotional wellbeing support, arts and crafts packs, food parcels and, in some cases, mobile phones to help Young Carers and their families make it through this crisis.

I hope you enjoy the record.

Matt

lyrics

Petrocelli

The feeling of rain, a bottle-green shame
Filling my nylon shorts again
Setting up shop in a cardboard box
Wondering why no passing trade
Painting a yacht in an empty room
Riding my milk float all the way down to the Lane
But Gerard Ball’s out today
And Jimmy Ruffin’s getting all the radio play

So what became of the unbroken heart
That sat on a buffet pumping away
Hiding a hole in the kitchen floor
Hoping these buyers don’t offer any more
Wath-Upon-Derne’s endless sales on TV
And a lambent memory of falling asleep
Hugging an eyeless bear
Dreaming of kindness and some form of encouragement

Weebles may wobble
Can you be sure they won’t fall down?
Scary as fuck in the sinister treehouse
Owned by the pudgy next-door clown
Who runs his Wide Games for all the young boys
While the red ants swarm the pavement
And yesterday’s rose-petal perfume starts to smell oh-so cruel
Yesterday’s rose perfume starts to smell oh-so cruel
